Ok Im sorry to say but this is un-facewan related but i have a question i really want answered. Lately alot of my friends have been able to host their own servers with barely and effort at all. I have a fine internet connection and everything but when i make a server people say they dont see it in the list. Someone told me to type "sv_lan 1" in the console but that didnt change it (unless you type it in the console before you make a server?) but all i really want to know here is how to make a server. ;)

Look though the Guides here: https://www.portforward.com/guides.htm and look on how to forward the game server port (usually 27015) though your firewall.

It allows a server to be forwarded through the firewall of a router so its open to the internet.
