What was yalls first steam "experience".... like...why did you install steam?

Here is my story...back in 2004 I was forced to make an account in order to install and play Half-Life 2. I only used that steam account to play that game specifically. I never really got into anything else after that.
Then the episodes came out for Half-Life 2, it was a long period of time since I had used steam..so I created an new account, and from then here I am! :) I later really....really got into Half-Life Deathmatch, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, Counter-Strike 1.6, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress(classic), Lost Planet, etc, etc. Then my steam experience kicked off.

    What about you guys?

I'm not exactly sure when I started with steam.
For the longest time as a child I played counter strike source without steam (The cracked version) back before the orange box bull shit and this new steampipe horse shit.
The game that got me hooked into playing the CS series was CS1.5 along with it's multiplayer HL.
I used to play it in Computer classes with my school mates back in mid school.
If I remember correctly, I used to play on a few servers (On CSS, not 1.5/6) and I wasn't able to acquire admin rights (I also have always had a dynamic ip range so that was out of the question too)
I do believe that the main reason I bought CSS was to have the ability to play on more servers and get administrator rights.
Right now I'd argue the thing holding me to steam the most is Portal 2 even though I have more than 8K hours invested into CSS.

I wanted Garry's Mod so I bought Half-Life 2 and I learned I needed to install this weird Steam crap. Six years later and I'm still here on Steam.

It was sometime in 2005 for me. I was in highschool and talking with Bojangles and CrazyChicken about Counter-strike and how I used to play at a local LAN cafe. I went and bought the Half-life platinum pack at BestBuy the next day to play online with them and installed it only to find out that I needed to install the entire game again using Steam to play online. That's when I registered my Steam account and the fun began.
