Yes, I'm going to buy the parts on Monday and probably put together the server Thursday or the following weekend.
wow that's amazing you guys can actually save money for a server i would have blown it all on drugs and alcohol by now:D
man, i cant wait for the server. heres some ideas for CSS that the new server can run surf deathmatch normal private (scrims?) gg normal gg zombie
i think someone else wanted zombie, so i included it. btw espeon, what are you gonna do with the server we are running now?
I've been thinking of demoting it to a firewall/web filter or making it dedicated for only web stuff and the database, and having the new server be all for games.
ewww no zombie or surf... gg_dm_turbo, reg gg, private and maybe another gg_dm server. the gg_dm servers are all way full it seems.
yeah, i agree but zombie seems stupid to me as well as surf. if we are going to run 4 c-strike servers then lets make it one that a lot of people will play. unless we can run more then that. i really don't care that much. i just wanna see us with at least gungame deathmatch turbo. a regular gungame and a private server.
I built the server today and installed the Operating System. I will move everything over the new server little by little and keep everyone updated, but for now, I'll post pictures of it. (Click on each picture for a larger version.) Here are the parts on my desk at work, minus the case and motherboard: Here is a shot of the front of the server when I put everything together: Here is a shot of the top of it: And two shots of the side, one with the top case off and one with it on:
what i still don't get is why people dont use a standard atx case, which can provide better cooling, but a rackmount case..
A standard ATX case for a server though? This server is racked and running in a cabinet in the server room.
o ok, yea, if you have lots of servers, its saves space, but if just running one or two servers, i rather have full atx cases. i just dont really see how the cpu is going to be cool considering the cooling provided.
The server room is air conditioned 24/7 by two huge air conditioners, plus the 2 fans in the case run 2 or 3 times faster than the desktop fans do, so heat shouldn't be much of an issue.
